Experience the Wild with Wilderness Skill Builders - Kids Edition
Course Overview (Kids ages 7-13)
Welcome to Wilderness Skill-Builders! This course starts with Skill-Building classes (mixed with ice-breaker activities and a bit of adventure) followed by a series of Adventure Challenge sessions. During each Skill-Building session, children will deep-dive into one essential element of survival, deep-dive classes may include: Wilderness First Aid, Shelter Building, Fire Making, and Gear Selection. Once the deep-dive Skill-Building classes are complete, the students are ready for their Adventure Challenges. During Adventure Challenges, students will apply the knowledge learned in the Skill-Building classes. Adventure Challenge classes begin with a story. Students must help the main character through: Gear Selection, Shelter Building, Fire Making, and Wilderness First Aid, that is appropriate for the story they are given. Challenges may not occur every class or may be broken up into smaller bits of the class to accommodate the natural flow of learning expected as we fill in additional knowledge, skills and experiences. Some additional skills may include water purification, navigation, cooking, knots, and use of tools. Instructors will encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, followed by solid expert advice and best-practices to build a strong foundation of knowledge and hands-on skills to prepare kids to tackle a variety of outdoor adventure challenges. Over the last year we have found an amazing instructor and we are looking to expand our class and welcome a larger group to share in this experience with us. As moms we enjoy joining the class and welcome all parents to attend
